TIPS to De-Stress!
Meditate: When I hear the word, meditate, I visualize sitting cross-legged and chanting “omm”. But, mindful meditation does not have to follow that sterotype. It is a great way to relieve stress: begin by getting in a comfortable position and relaxing your breathing. Then, try to calm the thoughts currently present in your head. This can be hard, but when your mind starts to drift off, realize it and try to bring yourself back into focus. Meditating is all about quieting the mind. Try to just be in the present, clearing your mind of everything. For some, playing some meditation music on YouTube can be a great help.
Exercise: Exercising is one of my personal favorite ways to de-stress. Physical activity such as walking, running, hiking, and swimming releases endorphins that aid in improving our mood. Also, in the long run, exercise lowers the body’s stress hormones and anxiety, which many people struggle with.
Outlets: Engaging in an activity that you enjoy is another great way to de-stress. That can be drawing, painting, baking, reading, writing. Using these activities as outlets for stress and emotions can be very helpful in relaxing.
Mental Image Relaxation: This process is sort of similar to meditation. Sometimes I like to close my eyes and imagine myself in any scenario I desire. The beach, a party, any alternate universe that brings you joy. Just close your eyes and use your imagination to create your own story and live in it. Drift away and enjoy time away from the stresses of everyday life.
